Toowoomba Spaghetti

Toowoomba pasta is an easy and creamy pasta with a twist of Asian flavors.

I got the idea from my favorite K-drama show (Korean drama) called Let’s Eat. It’s on Netflix if you’re interested in Korean cooking and drama.

The gentleman (Dae-young) made it look so easy with packaged ramen noodles, veggies, sliced cheese, cream and spam (canned pork). I would say whatever is in the pantry kind of meal with comfort.

My version has the flavor of squid in a decadent creamy Asian spicy sauce, your family will love.

  1. In a bowl, whisk in heavy cream, milk, chopped green onions, gochugaru, and soy sauce. Allow to marinate in the fridge for 1-3 hours.
  2. Cook spaghetti as directed on package. Toss with a few drops of olive oil and set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. First, saute the garlic and onions until soft.
  4. Drop your bacon into the pan and cook until crispy.
  5. Now it's time to add the mushrooms and carrots until most of the water is released.
  6. Add the heavy cream mixture and squid. Simmer over low heat until the cream slightly reduces.
  7. Add chopped broccoli. Cook until slightly tender. Adjust spices and seasoning before serving.
  8. Drown the spaghetti in the sauce. Add a little pasta water if the pasta looks dry.
  9. Garnish with green onions, your favorite cheese, and sprinkled with gochugaru.
  10. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes

You can also use shrimp, calamari, crawfish, beef, chicken or omit these ingredients for a vegetarian dish. 

Not a pork or bacon lover? Use chicken hot dogs or turkey bacon. 

Use ramen noodles or Maggi if you don't have pasta in the house, it's your kitchen. 

Add your favorite veggies to this creamy dish. 

If gochugaru is not available in your area, use chili powder.
